Tax lawyers and accountants have a reputation of being boring and “bean counters”, but throughout my internship this stereotype has been proven wrong again and again. Not only are the people I work with really nice, outgoing people but the work itself is not boring at all!
In terms of work, this week and last week has been pretty busy for my team (Transaction Services). I have been doing asked to do two tax returns simultaneously. You’d think that a tax return for a company would be pretty boring, but the work is actually pretty interesting. There are plenty of gritty accounting issues to sort out and it is a real exercise in logical thinking.
I have also written a file note (basically an essay) on the amalgamation regime in the Companies Act 1993. To write this, I had to do research in regards to something we never covered in lectures and it has been a real learning exercise.
So there we go, tax is really not that bad!
